Mount Pleasant, SC – Tonight, Rear Admiral Nancy Lacore released the following statement after election returns showed her decisively winning South Carolina’s First Congressional District, with her margin of victory outside of South Carolina’s recount threshold. Lacore, who will be one of the first female flag officers to serve in the United States Congress and will have attained the highest military ranking of any member of the 120th Congress, issued the following statement:
“The latest vote totals from Dorchester County have expanded our lead and put this race outside the margin for an automatic recount. The voters of the Lowcountry have spoken, and they've made their choice clear. I’m honored to be the next Congresswoman from South Carolina’s First Congressional District.
“In a district Donald Trump won by 13 points just two years ago, Republicans, Democrats, and Independents came together to demand something better from Washington. We have a lot of work to do in Congress and change isn’t going to happen overnight. But I will always be focused on serving with integrity and results.
“I am grateful and humbled by the Lowcountry’s trust in me, and I look forward to delivering for them in Congress.”
Nancy Lacore entered the race as a first-time candidate in a district President Trump won by 13 points in 2024, turning what was initially considered a long-shot Democratic pickup opportunity into one of the most competitive House races in the country. A retired three-star admiral who served 35 years in the Navy, Lacore built a bipartisan coalition around her record of nonpartisan service, independent leadership, and commitment to putting the Lowcountry ahead of party politics. Her campaign earned endorsements from more than 40 leaders and organizations, including Mount Pleasant’s Republican Mayor Will Haynie.
